5 Minutes for Your Day
Rev. Michele Owes
Rev. Michele Owes: [00:00:00] Welcome to five minutes for your day. We are excited to be with you and to share brief but profound truths about God's word. Today, we're going to talk about when God chooses you. It does not matter who has discounted you, failed to include you, or ruled you out. When God chooses you, He has already searched your heart, found you worthy for His cause and purpose, and has a plan.
Rev. Michele Owes: Just look at 1 Samuel chapter number 16; this is the story of God choosing you. Anointing a new king over Israel. He instructs Samuel to go to Jesse the Bethlehemite's home, and he will be providing a new king among his sons. So, Samuel gets to Jesse's home. He tells Jesse to bring all of his sons to the sacrifice. [00:01:00]
Rev. Michele Owes: Jesse brings the first son out when he gets there. And when Samuel looks at him, he says, surely the Lord's anointed is before him. But God speaks in a very profound way in verse number seven, which says, But the Lord said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance or on the height of his stature because I have refused him.
Rev. Michele Owes: For the Lord seeth not as man seeth, for man looketh on the outward appearance.
Rev. Michele Owes: So now we know how God chooses. He chooses based on the contents of our hearts. So Jesse brought seven sons before Samuel. And the Lord said I have not chosen these. I have not chosen him. And Samuel said, are these all your children, Jesse? And Jesse says, I have one more, but he's out [00:02:00] there caring for the sheep.
Rev. Michele Owes: Samuel told him to fetch and bring him in. We will not sit down until he comes. Now, when David walks into the house, the Bible says that he is ruddy, with all of a beautiful countenance, and goodly to look to. A beautiful countenance refers to the condition of his heart. David had a good heart.
Rev. Michele Owes: And the Lord said, Arise, anoint him, for this is he. And Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him amid his brethren. Even amid his father who failed to invite him to the sacrifice, though, he was informed to bring all of his sons to the sacrifice. Jesse left David out there with the sheep and just think about the fact that [00:03:00] seven sons.
Rev. Michele Owes: were brought before Samuel before David. What that means is when God has chosen you, it does not matter how good someone looks. It does not matter how well educated they are. It does not matter if they seem to be better at what it is you're being asked to do, or more well suited for it. When God chooses you, He's chosen you because of the contents of your heart.
Rev. Michele Owes: He's chosen you because He's found you worthy of His purpose and His cause. And the caution for us today is not to discount ourselves. When God chooses us, He has already equipped us for the task that is ahead. But when we begin to think, I'm not worthy to do that, I don't have the skills to do that. I'm not able to do that.
Rev. Michele Owes: Someone else is better suited for that. Then we're forgetting [00:04:00] that it's God who made us, God who sustains us, and it's God who equips us to do His will. So our message for you today is when God chooses you, He has already searched your heart. He has found you worthy for His cause and His purpose, and He has a plan for you.
Rev. Michele Owes: For your life. Be blessed upon today knowing that God has chosen you.
