Fight the Good Fight!

Welcome to the Teachable Woman Podcast – the place where faith meets everyday life. Here, we dive deep into the Word of God, explore biblical truths, and encourage one another to walk boldly in purpose and power. Whether you're at home, driving to work, or just needing a moment of spiritual refreshment, this is your space to grow in faith and be inspired to live for Christ.

Fight the Good Fight of Faith

Have you ever been in a fight—physically, mentally, emotionally, or spiritually? In this powerful episode, we break down what it means to “fight the good fight of faith” as instructed in 1 Timothy 6. Through the example of Jesus’ temptation in the wilderness (Luke 4), we learn how to resist the devil using the Word of God and stand firm in our divine identity. The enemy often offers us counterfeits, but God has already given us access to the real thing. Tune in and be reminded that every fight isn’t worth your energy—but the good fight of faith? That one’s worth it all.

Counterfeit Promises vs. Kingdom Purpose

What do you do when the enemy offers you what looks like everything you’ve been praying for? In this episode, we unpack the deceptive tactics of the enemy, who tried to tempt Jesus with food, power, and status. But Jesus knew who He was—and we must too. This episode reminds us that Satan often presents imitations of what God has already promised us. You’ll walk away with renewed discernment and encouragement to trust God’s timing and truth.

Resist, Refuse, Remain—Jesus Is the Blueprint

Jesus gave us the ultimate example of how to fight: with the Word, with authority, and with unwavering faith. In this episode, we highlight how Jesus resisted the devil three times by standing on scripture. We discuss how that same power lives in us and how resisting temptation is more than just saying “no”—it’s saying “yes” to God’s purpose. Let this be a reminder that we are already victorious through Christ, and when we follow His lead, we’re equipped for every battle.

Enjoy your day!

Fight the Good Fight of Faith

Have you ever been in a fight or witnessed one? I have. They illicit a myriad of emotions, whether you are the participant or the bystander. The battles can be mental, physical, emotional, and even spiritual. We’ve all engaged in battles, whether planned or impromptu. There is only one type of fight that, as believers in Jesus Christ, we should not shy away from: the “Good Fight of Faith”. Paul told Timothy in 1st Timothy, Chapter 6, to flee from envy, strife, evil surmising, and hurtful lust; these don’t lead to a good fight, but to destructive ones. In verse 12 of the same chapter, he said, “Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called...

The good fight yields beneficial results. The outcomes are of greater value and virtue. They are better, more distinguished, and worthy of your involvement. Know this: It will be a struggle, and you must strive and endeavor to accomplish the unimaginable prize.

From the accounts in Luke 4:1-13, when Jesus fasted 40 days and 40 nights, during what we now call the Lent season, He was tempted by the devil. That means he was harassed. Because he knew Jesus was hungry after the fast, the tempter said, “If thou be the Son of God, turn these stones to bread”. Jesus answered him with the word of God and resisted the opportunity to show off his power for meaningless requests. He resisted the devil. In John 6:35, Jesus said, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst. Jesus is our sustenance and portion, so what was the devil offering?

In his second attempt, the devil tried to offer Jesus power and glory if he would worship him. Jesus resisted temptation and answered, "Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God and serve him only." Jesus persevered. For the ultimate defeat, when He rose from the dead, he met his disciples and said in Matthew 28:18, “All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. " There was no real power that the devil could offer because all power of Heaven and earth was given to Jesus.

On the third attempt, the devil asked Jesus to throw himself from a high pinnacle to test whether the angels would bear him up. Jesus resisted and said, "Thou shalt not tempt the Lord Thy God." Jesus reminded the devil that before he was kicked out of heaven, I was and still am your God. The hierarchy, or organizational chart, has not changed. There is no other God before me. I am your God, whether you acknowledge it or not.

The devil had no more to say and departed for another season. Notice that the devil was offering Jesus what he already owned. He was already the Bread of Life, was given all Power in heaven and earth, and is the Lord thy God. The devil’s offers were all counterfeit. He was offering what God had already intended for Jesus.

Remember, 1 Corinthians 2:9, says Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him. We learned from our founding Episcopal Pastor that God will give you anything He can trust you with in accordance with His will and plan for our lives. As Christians, we fight the good fight with the Word of God. Jesus is our example of how to fight the good fight. We resist the devil and give him no place. Only then will we be victorious and receive whatever God has planned for us.
